Motivation Monday: “Just Do IT Damn It!”

Today’s message is such an appropriate one given that we’ve landed on the first day of the month – June 1st. Each 1st of the month is almost like a rebirth. A chance to start fresh, start again, and to give yourself another opportunity to set a goal, focus on the path to achieving it, and then simply making it happen.

But, for many of us, getting and staying on that path becomes a challenge. And for many more, simply STARTING AT ALL is the crippling aspect. So it’s like, you know what you want to do, you know exactly where you want to end up, but for whatever reasons you fail to make the first move! You get stuck, and before you know it, you’ve thrown in the towel yet again not allowing yourself that fighting chance to actually get things rolling towards your personal desires.

Well, the only way I can tell you that you can get over this is by setting your fears aside and giving yourself the AUDACITY to dare to dream and to just do it already, dammit!

Just Do It

Such a perfect slogan Nike has given us, and how amazing that it crosses into all aspects of life, right? I can’t even count on all my fingers and toes how many times I’ve heard people say things like “well I’ll start going to the gym when I lose X amount of weight”, or “I’ll start on this new plan once I reach *this* point”. Excuses or thoughts that don’t really make sense and kind of set you up to fail from the jump.

To every single one of you trying to construct the PERFECT plan or timing to start out on your goals I say STOP. Just cut it out and JUST DO IT already.

Listen, the timing is NEVER perfect. Things will ALWAYS come up, and might even derail you a bit, but if you keep putting off til tomorrow what could and should be done today, you’ll never accomplish anything. The game plan is never going to be perfect. So what you need to do is simply figure things out as you go.

So essentially, I’m telling you that you need to simply step forward and proceed on faith, determination, and a relentless grit to succeed by any means necessary. Have a game plan – but be prepared to abandon ship when needed. And ALLOW yourself to know that it’s ok if and when you do. Your game plan is a guide, but like all things that are perfectly mapped out, it’s done with an ideal in mind. The real world application of the plan will always involve and require personal tweaking, so don’t be afraid to allow for that, prepare mentally for that, and abandon an original plan for a better one when the time arises.

More importantly, don’t sweat the small stuff. Always keep in mind the big picture in the equation. If something throws you off, you had a misstep, maybe you were brought back about 2 steps after having a successful 5 steps towards your goals. It doesn’t matter, just know that it’s all a part of the process and if you allow it to defeat you – you’ll be back at square one wishing and hoping for what you want, instead of being in the process of making it your reality. I’m going to leave you with this as I conclude today’s motivational message…

Tony Horton (creator of P90X) has a really awesome quote that I think aptly applies: “Give it your best and forget the rest…”

That’s it in a nutshell. At the end of the day, all you can do is TRY. Give yourself a CHANCE to dare to dream, dare to have a desire, and dare to simply go after it with all you’ve got. And though you will falter along the way, you can’t worry about that. You’ve got to simply keep your eyes on the prize, get out and DO IT, and leave everything else out of your mind’s eye.
